Supporting low skilled adults into training and employment

Location: The Women's Organisation, 54 St James St, Liverpool L1 0AB

Time: 10am to 1pm

Merseyside Expanding Horizons (MEH) is part of a new and exciting European project called ETOS www.etosproject.eu which focuses on supporting low skilled adults into training and employment across Europe. MEH has the opportunity to engage with local organisations who are working with and offering support to socially disadvantaged groups and promote the good work the sector is doing to support people experiencing barriers to training or employment  to get back into or remain within employment.

This will be done through a special half day focus group event on Thursday 9th February at  The Women’s Organisation that will bring together local partners and other stakeholders in the sector to discuss the topics of;

  • real training and educational needs of the trainers working with disadvantaged adults,
  • training needs and obstacles of disadvantages from and organisations point of view

  • identification of best methodologies working with target groups at the working place (transfer of knowledge, learning by doing)

The ETOS project will develop a training model which will be performed on the job and not in classrooms through practical, interrelations activities thanks to entrepreneurs (small, sole proprietorship) becoming adult trainers and supported by experienced tutors. The specific aim of the project is to develop an innovative training methodology and skills certification system addressed to low skilled adults without any qualification. The project will also develop a new EU skills certification based on an innovative evaluation model in line with ECVET (European Credit System for VET) system requirements, awarded at the end of the training path.

MEH is currently conducting research into existing support services and best practise examples and our focus group event will give us the opportunity to consult with organisations across Merseyside to share expertise and experience. Participating in this event will also give you the invaluable opportunity to be part of a  piece of research that will influence and feed into a European strategy that will support disadvantaged adults into training and employment.
