Hairdressing tutor celebrates 25 years service at Liverpool Community College

Val Douglas, hairdressing team leader at Liverpool Community College recently celebrated 25 years dedicated service to the college.
Val has worked since the age of 19 as a tutor and before that was a student at the college.
"The changes I’ve seen within the hairdressing industry are immense. When I first started at the college we had six groups of hairdressing students. We’ve now got 13 groups, and another 13 in beauty! Complementary and holistic courses have become very popular in recent times.”
“When I started, hairdressing students had to attend for 30 hours a week, studying wig making, science, business, art and communications as well as hairdressing skills. My role has also changed over the years, becoming more versatile and offering more pastoral care to students."
Val has continuously updated her skills throughout her service, recently completing her Wella Colour Masters. It is with credit to her that the department recently received their grade 1 "Outstanding" grade in their OFSTED inspection. Val’s continuous motivation and passion for the industry is an inspiration for all students and colleagues.
