HCTS celebrates high childcare achievement rates
Learners on childcare apprenticeships with Huyton-based provider HCTS are achieving outstanding success. Figures show that during the last 12 months over 95% of the apprentices successfully achieved their qualifications. Figures also show that after achieving their qualification, a similar percentage of level 2 childcare apprentices are continuing their learning and progressing onto a level 3.
The childcare programme at HCTS is managed by Karen Taylor and Ronnie Stewart. They have developed an in-depth programme of support for their apprentices which includes having a mentor for each learner in the workplace, a buddy system pairing new learners with more experienced ones, and one-to-one tutorials for those who need extra help. They have also built firm working relationships with the managers of local nurseries, meeting with them on a regular basis to ensure the HCTS apprenticeship programme continues to satisfy industry needs. Karen sums up the reasons for the programme’s success:
“Achievement rates are linked to both providing comprehensive support for each apprentice so they can achieve their potential, and to listening to our local employers, constantly shaping the training so that it best meets their requirements.”
