St Helens Chamber to provide jobs boost

St Helens Chamber will be creating 240 new jobs to combat youth unemployment after being awarded a contract to deliver the Future Jobs Fund programme for St Helens.

The Chamber is working with partners from across the Liverpool City Region to create 2,500 jobs for long term unemployed people. Funded through the Government’s Future Jobs Fund, these jobs will provide opportunities for training and experience in a wide range of areas.

Pauline Devine, Employment Services Manager at St Helens Chamber, explains: “All the jobs we secure through this programme will be new positions created in the Borough.

“The jobs will offer a six month temporary contract and will all be of benefit to young people from across the Liverpool City Region. Some of the new employees will be working on environmental and construction projects delivered by the Chamber through our Construction Training Centre, while others will be placed with partner organisations including St Helens Council, Helena Partnerships and within the voluntary sector working on community projects.

“This new project is a fantastic opportunity for us to help reduce unemployment levels and we are extremely pleased to have won the contract to deliver the project.”

Each post will pay the national minimum wage and will offer a 30 hour working week. Potential candidates will be identified by Jobcentre Plus and referred to the Chamber. All applications for Future Jobs Fund jobs must come through Jobcentre Plus as there is a clear eligibility requirement.

St Helens Chamber is looking to secure positions within the voluntary, community interest and public sectors. They must be additional roles and must benefit the community over and above the benefit of employment. Individuals will be employed on a temporary contract and paid a salary by the Chamber.

Any companies who can offer a position should contact Joanna Boley on 01744 698813 or email futurejobsfund@sthelenschamber.com
