Youth employment must be a priority for Clegg and Cameron says Scientiam
GMLPF member, Scientiam is delivering an impassioned plea to the new Government to redouble efforts to tackle spiralling levels of youth unemployment.
Scientiam, which has offices in Birkenhead, Liverpool, Runcorn and Warrington, said recent national unemployment figures show the scale of the challenge faced by Mr Cameron and Mr Clegg’s new Government.
“For many areas of Merseyside and Cheshire the figures are even worse and we urge any young person looking for work to contact us so we can help them into employment,” said Scientiam’s managing director Amanda O’Shea. “We know the recession is hitting young people hardest. We urge the new Government to make youth unemployment one of its prime priorities in battling the recession.
Mrs O’Shea stresses that apprenticeships are working and urges the Government and local businesses to continue to support them.
“What these youngsters desperately need is real world work experience,” she says. “The apprenticeship programme gives them precisely that. It offers young people a foot in the door to prove themselves and learn what the working world is all about. Critically they can develop the skills that businesses are crying out for if they are to grow and beat the recession. And we urge any business reading this who has space for an apprentice to contact us to see how their business can benefit from taking on a young person..”
