Asset Training listed on Ofsted Good Practice database
As a result of their 2009 Ofsted inspection, Asset Training was awarded a “grade 1 outstanding” for learner outcomes. After their 2005 inspection highlighted the need for Asset to improve learners’ success rates, the organisation underwent a strategic and cultural change that was meticulously researched, planned and implemented with staff playing an intrinsic role in the overall process. This has had a significantly positive impact on Asset’s learner outcomes.
Ofsted found such compelling evidence of good practice in this area that Asset Training has been included on the Excellence Gateway’s Ofsted Good Practice Database.
The strategy that Asset implemented included investing in the most up-to-date electronic equipment and providing staff with the training to use it effectively. Further staff development included training all employees to level 3 key skills numeracy and literacy, and giving them the opportunity to achieve relevant level 2 functional skills. All this has equipped staff to provide the best possible support to learners and given them an insight to the challenges learners face on their programmes.
Another key factor in Asset’s strategy was to develop ways to help employers become more dynamic contributors to learners’ programmes. This was done in a number of ways including the introduction of a summary document containing relevant targets and dates which is shared with employers and learners and updated after each meeting. Learner targets are set with employer input as this makes those targets more realistic and achievable in the workplace context. Also each employer has a service level agreement with Asset which outlines employers’ roles and responsibilities, and is strictly adhered to.
