Talent shines at tpm movie-themed hairshow

an apprentice preps her model's hair for the horror category

A slice of Hollywood was served up at Liverpool's Liner Hotel last week as tpm put on its hairshow extravaganza 2011. This year the annual competition and catwalk show focussed on film genres: horror, romcom, sci-fi and action flick.

The history of the tpm hairshow had reached the peak of creativity, we thought, with last year's dazzling music subcultures theme. But this year's event may have surpassed even that. The stage brimmed with an endless flow of iconic models sporting jaw-dropping hair creations. Meanwhile, in between their gasps of wonder, the audience fell over themselves to guess the film behind each hairstyle.

Ultimately the show reminded us once more of the standard of tpm's hairdressing apprentices. The display of their skills and professionalism was really a sight to behold, a winning combination of their own raw talent and ambition, coupled with the guiding hand of tpm tutors, and the support of their employers.

John Grahame of Toni & Guy Whitechapel was the competition's lead judge:

"Yet again tpm staff and learners have provided an arena for young people and their employers to present their shining talents and services"

The panel of judges added that the standard of work by students remained very high throughout the show, even under the pressure of a live audience.

Hooka hair salon was crowned Most Supportive Apprenticeship Employer whilst apprentice Hayley Shaw, also of Hooka, was awarded Student of the Year.
