100 Apprenticeships in 100 days

This is the gauntlet laid down by St Helens Chamber as it strives to support the Borough’s business community to recognise the benefits Apprenticeships can bring to their workforce.

Apprenticeships are a long established and respected means of delivering workplace training, and now thanks to new funding from St Helens Council and the European Social Fund, they are more accessible than ever, with a contribution of £2500 towards wages available to local businesses recruiting an apprentice to fill a vacancy.

St Helens Chamber has joined forces with St. Helens Council to launch this new Apprenticeship programme aimed at providing as many local young people as possible with a good start in their working life.

In the current economic climate it is essential that we all work together to make this happen, so last month the Chamber launched a challenge to businesses from across the Borough to create 100 new Apprenticeships in 100 days.

Companies already signed up to take on an Apprentice include; Capital Bookkeeping, Dave Watts MP, GPW Recruitment, Parkside Ltd, P&R Labpak, Saints Foundation, TJ & S Jenkinson Ltd, Wind in the Willows.

St Helens Chamber can currently deliver training in a wide range of fields ranging from bricklaying and plastering through to retail, ICT and management. If the Chamber can’t provide the training you need, they will do their best to find a local training provider who can.

The new package of financial support is available thanks to funding from the European Social Fund via St.Helens Council and is available for small to medium sized enterprises (less than 250 employees) based in St Helens.

Apprentices recruited through the new programme need to be aged 16-24 and will be employed by the business, paid minimum wage or higher.

If you will have a vacancy in your business this summer, which could be filled by an Apprentice, please contact St Helens Chamber and they will visit your business to discuss your requirements.
