tpm childcare apprentice is male role model

tpm apprentice, Jonathan Carmichael is firmly wedging a stake in the ground for young men wishing to pursue a career in childcare, a profession traditionally associated with women.
As a father and someone who has wanted to work in the childcare sector since leaving school, the 19-year old is passionate about challenging the negative stereotypes of young dads. He works with children full time at Kensington Children’s Centre, whilst training towards professional childcare qualifications on his apprenticeship with tpm,
Jonathan’s passion spills over into his free time. He has undertaken The Fatherhood Institute’s Hit the Ground Crawling programme,a group course developed specifically for fathers covering a broad range of issues including pregnancy, baby’s arrival, baby care, mother’s emotions, and infant safety.
He is actively involved with the Young Father’s Network, notably the ‘City Site Project’, a diverse group of young dads, sharing their personal experiences and values about childcare. He’s spoken about this on local radio and has also spoken at a conference run by the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID).
He’s now on a childcare apprentice with tpm and works with children full time at Kensington Children’s Centre. He continues to take every opportunity to develop his knowledge and understanding around his passion for childcare.
tpm director, Brian Quinn recognises how inspiring Jonathan’s story will be to others:
“Jonathan is a true role model for young men wishing to enter the childcare profession: he’s a shining example of how men really do have the ability and potential to offer positive childcare both in the home and in professional settings, and actually excel. Jonathan’s passion will inspire others and fuel his own success in the field of childcare.”
