tpm share best practice with Netherlands delegate

. In November, tpm welcomed teachers and managers from the Netherlands researching best practice in delivering frameworks featuring employer engagement and high quality language, literacy and numeracy programmes (LLN).

The visit was organised by Mieke De Haan, Education Policy Advisor in Life Long Learning in the Netherlands, and Rob Pheasant ‘Head of Skills for Life at LSIS UK.

Mr De Haan and his colleagues are members of the Netherlands Association of Vocational Education Training Colleges, representing all government-funded colleges for secondary vocational education and training and adult training education in the Netherlands.

As an LSIS lead LLN provider, tpm was well-positioned to demonstrate good practice in this area. During their visit, tpm’s LLN/ESOL specialist Claire Collins and director Paula Hayes presented a day of information sharing covering:

  • Awarding organisation and the role of an IV and an EV
  • How to achieve centre accreditation
  • Staff CPD
  • ‘the standards’ (LLN core curriculum and hairdressing)
  • The role of the employer
  • Interviewing a learner
  • Initial assessment
  • College delivery
  • Work based assessment
  • Documenting the above
